Good morning 8th Grade! I hope you all had a wonderful spring break!

As we move forward, we keep getting deeper into tensions in the United States between the North & South and controversial issues of the time, particularly slavery.
I want you all to see and encounter vivid historical perspectives. Thus, I want you all to dive into slave narratives compiled by a group known as Federal Writer’s Project (FWP) whom worked for the government to record and collect the voices of slaves before the Civil War.

Some of what you might read in this assignment might be hard to process but I want to give you all a glimpse of the South before the Civil War. Some of it is good and some of it is bad but analyzing these pieces of texts will help you grasp the context where the United States was at during this era.

PLEASE READ AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS ATTACHED TO THE PRIMARY SOURCE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES. I AM HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. I look forward to see where your analysis and interpretation takes you based on what you read.

We are done with Ch. 12. However, the next two days and when we come back from break, we are going to spend time on primary source analysis. Today, we are focusing on an in depth analysis on Nat Turner. I will give you TODAY & TOMORROW to work on this assignment. I expect EFFORT & CRITICAL THINKING from all of you (that means COMPLETE SENTENCES ON THIS ASSIGNMENT).

BTW, You can work with 1 or 2 other people but everyone must turn in their own work. If we had to do this assignment in the classroom, I would have definitely put you in small groups of 2-3 to work on this since it is challenging and you all do a great job of collaborating together.
