The test on TKAM will be posted on Wednesday, May 27, and due on Friday, May 29. It will be a combination of comprehension, probably multiple choice, and short to mid-length written thinking questions.

This test covers the entire book, in order. It is a Google Form, and should be self correcting. If you notice anything odd about it or it is not behaving like it is saving or self-correcting, please let me know as soon as possible.

NOTE: This is the portion of the test that is objective, for the most part. I will be sending a separate Google Doc with your thinking/short answer questions.

Attached is a Google Doc with my questions for you to address. Please read the directions thoroughly, because they will help you respond well to the questions. You should choose only two (2) questions of the five (5) to write about.

This part of your test is designed to be challenging and fun. It should provide you with a framework to put your thoughts and ideas together. In the process, I hope you learn a lot!

Please complete the Character Profile sheets assigned, adding new information that you obtained throughout the novel, especially during and just after the trial of Tom Robinson. These sheets are located on pages 5-10 of our packet.

Attached in the comments stream of this class is a link to the Gregory Peck movie, To Kill a Mockingbird. This is a classic movie and one everyone should watch. If you have any difficulty watching it, try your family’s Amazon Prime to access it directly. Or you can go to Google and bring it up; there are several free ways to watch the movie there.

On a Google Doc, write down 5 bullet points of things that were different from the movie OR parts of the movie that you found really powerful.

Finish reading Chapters 29-31 of TKAM. To turn in, create one Google Doc and write 5-10 bullet points for each of these chapters, indicating the key events of the chapter and the key things you learned about the characters.

Be prepared to discuss these 4 chapters in some detail for our Tuesday morning Zoom class at 11:30am. You have already been assigned these chapters, so please take time over the weekend to re-read them. If you have been leaning on Spark Notes for story line issues, you need to read the book itself, which is infinitely richer and more significant. Complete all previously assigned sketch notes for these chapters and submit them in the appropriate section of the original assignment.

Hi, everyone--

I would like us to read through Chapters 18 and 19 before Easter vacation. In addition, while it is fresh in your minds, I would like you to finish Sketch Notes sheets on those chapters, pp. 29 and 30 in our packet. Can you do that by Thursday?

Let's do our best to get to that point. I will list all of this as due on Thursday.

Today, try to also read or listen to Chapter 17 of TKAM. Be working on pp. 27-28 in our packet, which will help you keep track of the trial. These sheets will be due on Wednesday.

After you have finished reading Chapters 15 and 16, complete the sketch notes and the questions pages from our packet.

Today, read Chapter 16. I STRONGLY recommend that you take your device (small, I hope!) and your earphones. Go outside, to your backyard, deck, front porch, wherever, and get some fresh air as you listen to the chapter. If you can go for a walk as you listen, all the better!!

If none of that is possible, you may, of course, read the chapter in the old-fashioned way. I really hope you can add some sunshine and fresh air into the experience!

It seems that I probably assigned too much for one day, so I am extending the due dates for the three items you are working on today:
1. Read Chapter 8 and complete the Chapter 7-8 Notes page. Can be completed on paper copy and photographed to turn in, or it can be answered using a Google Doc.
2. Read pp. 3-4 on What is Prejudice? and answer the questions. You may use a Google Doc to answer the questions.
3. Complete the Motifs in Chapters 1-6 sheet, using a Google Doc.

NOTE: In the early pages of our packet, you will see many pages for note-taking on the characters of the book. These pages are intended to be completed AS YOU CONTINUE TO READ THE BOOK AND GET TO KNOW THE CHARACTERS WELL. As ongoing work, please begin filling out these pages, leaving room for yourself to add as we continue to read the book. Fill these in with pen and keep them in your folder as we read. I will be collecting them when we return to school, or we will be able to turn them in to the school office in a couple of weeks.

As we proceed with our reading of To Kill a Mockingbird, please continue from where we left off: complete Chapter 9 and read Chapter 10.

In the packet you received last week in class, note that some of the pages are ones you have already done. Please hang onto these, because some of you had not turned them in to me before we left on Friday. You might be advised to complete them.

Meanwhile, as you read, use your note-taking reading sheets to help guide your reading. Complete the sheets that cover Chapter 9 and 10. They will be due tomorrow.

Several of you have informed me that you don't recall reading Chapters 6 and 7 in class. According to my plans, we had done so, but I know we stopped to work on our essays, so I think I was working from plans I had not adjusted sufficiently. Therefore, please work on reading Chapters 6 and 7 and answering the study questions for these chapters. Because of the incorrect information earlier, they will not be due until tomorrow afternoon.
