ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION

SCHOOL YEAR 2019-2020

 

NOTE: ANYONE VOLUNTEERING IN ANY CONTACT WITH CHILDREN MUST BE VIRTUS TRAINED AND FINGERPRINTED.  IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE THIS DONE AND KEEP TRACK OF CERTIFICATION AND RENEWAL DATES.

 

BBQ COMMITTEE

Calling all Grill Masters! Come join this “hot” new committee.  Help with creating menus, shopping for food, and grilling for School events.  Events may include KNIGHT GLOW RUN Jog-a-Thon in the Fall, Open House in the Spring and Alumni Luau BBQ in the Summer.

 

BOOK FAIR

Assist Chairperson in selling books to parents / students during school hours at lunch and after school.  Volunteers must be available during the day.

 

ALUMNI LUAU BBQ

Help plan and organize St. Joe’s first Alunni Luau BBQ!  Areas to join are Promotion and Publicity, Food & Menu, Day of Activities, and Organization leading up to the event and working the day of. This event will take place on a Sunday (to be determined) in the summer.

 

CLASS PHOTOGRAPHER

A parent from each class assigned to take pictures of your class during school activities.  Pictures may be used for News Notes, class projects, and our yearbook. Must be fingerprinted and Virtus trained and own your own camera.  It’s a fun opportunity to be involved with your child’s class!

 

LUNCH HOUR FIRST AID

Provide simple first aid for children at lunchtime during the school lunch hour.  Band-aids, ice-packs and a reassuring word for boo-boos! Commitment may be for a trimester or for a particular day of the week year round.  

 

HOSPITALITY

Provide refreshments, paper goods, setup, cleanup, and possibly serve at 3-5 school and / or parent association activities or functions, (ie. Back to school social, Parent meetings, additional events as requested).  There are some events that occur during school hours, availability during this time would be helpful.

 

HOT LUNCH

Pick-up, assemble and distribute hot lunches.  Volunteers should be available during lunch time at least one day (the same day) per week or more (Monday – Friday) during the school lunch hour.

 

LUNCH TABLES / YARD DUTY

This is a great opportunity to see our kids socialize during the day!  Help supervise lunch area. Assist kids with lunch boxes and table clean up, then assist faculty to monitor the students at play on the yard.  Help to provide a safe, fun, environment for the students to exercise, socialize and interact. Volunteers must be available during the school lunch hour, at least one day per week or more (Monday – Thursday).

 

NEW FAMILY WELCOME COMMITTEE

Help with organizing events for our new school families.  Volunteer opportunities may include set-up/clean-up on day of events, provide refreshments, socializing with new families, etc.  In addition, you will be paired with new school families at the start of the school year to provide guidance and be a point of contact to answer any questions they may have about the school throughout the year.

 

PARKING LOT SAFETY COMMITTEE

Help supervise the drop-off carline at school to ensure safety of our children.  Involves supervising drop off area at least one morning per week. Receive 30 minutes of volunteer service per shift.

NEW – Looking for volunteers to assist with the afternoon pick up carline as well.

Sign up for mornings only, afternoons only, or both!

 

ROOM PARENT

Head Room Parents are responsible for organizing class activities, assisting teachers as needed for projects, and communications for your class.  Includes coordinating class efforts for school fundraising. Duties will vary depending on the grade level. Room Parents are responsible for creating class projects for school events (ie.: SJW Festival), and assisting with field trip coordination.  Room Parents will be selected first for field trip chaperones. It is preferable that parents be available during school hours.

NEW - Additional Room Parents - Assist Head Room Parent in planning and organizing classroom activities, school fundraising and grade fundraising (if applicable). All duties and hours dependent on grade level.

 

SCHOOL SOCIAL LIFE COMMITTEE

Assist Chairperson with planning and organizing a variety of social events and family activities throughout the school year.  Events such as Bingo Nights, Movie Nights, Trunk or Treating, etc. Get in with the fun crowd and help out with these great events!

 

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM & SPRING TALENT SHOWCASE

Be a part of our creative team with these annual events!  Help with tickets, programs, costumes, make-up, refreshments, etc!

 

TEACHER APPRECIATION COMMITTEE

Assist Chair in coordinating annual Teacher / Staff Appreciation Luncheon in May and any other teacher / staff appreciation activities / events during the year.

 

TEACHER / OFFICE SUPPORT

Three Options:

  1. Work 1 or 2 hours one morning per week for one trimester during the school year.  Duties will include copying materials for teachers / office, assisting teachers as needed.
  2. Summer Help – Help teachers prepare for the new school year.  Set up / organize the classrooms, prepare students’ materials, books, supplies, etc.
  3. Donation Collection – Great for busy parents.  Cultivate donations & Scholarship relationships by making phone calls & sending letters home.
BOOSTERTHON - KNIGHT GLOW RUN

Join in on the newest fundraising committee, the Annual Knight Glow Run (jog-a-thon). This is a high energy, on campus event, where students run, jog, walk, dance to the best tunes, and collect donations for their school. The whole evening is an absolute blast for ALL!

 

USED UNIFORM SALE

Assist with laundering, mending, folding, sizing , set-up and organization of donated uniforms.  Help is needed 3 to 4 times a year.

 

YEARBOOK COMMITTEE

Assist Chairperson in taking pictures of school activities and events throughout the school year.  Volunteers will also assist in the production of the school yearbook which includes downloading photographs and page design of our book.  Committee members need to own a camera, have access to a computer and be available to attend school events to take and submit photographs.

 

KNIGHTS ATHLETICS BOOSTER CLUB

Assist with set-up and organization of sporting events, including the Bill Hedland Boys-B Basketball Tournament, Sports Banquet, Spaghetti Dinner etc..

 

SJW FESTIVAL COMMITTEE

Help coordinate theme of Festival with parish and school. Procure t-shirts with winning theme design.  Organize sub-committees such as decorations, food booth chair, t-shirt design contest, classroom participation, finance, etc. Work begins in the fall, however a majority of work starts when we return from Easter Break.

To make these volunteer positions and committees successful, parent volunteers must commit to help on the committee you requested / were assigned.  These volunteer positions are a yearlong commitment from August until the end of the school year. We understand kids get sick and plans change but we need your help in keeping your commitments.
